Name Our Great Horned Owl
He Needs a Name!
In late August 2023, a great horned owl was struck by a pick-up truck close to the South Dakota/Wyoming border. The bird survived, but had broken bones. Bramble Park Zoo rehabilitated the male owl, but he was deemed non-releasable. While he has some ability to fly, he certainly cannot sustain being airborne for long periods of time.
The bird came to live at the Black Hills Raptor Center in February of 2024. He is in training to be an avian ambassador. And you can help us select his name!
The names were submitted by the volunteers of the Black Hills Raptor Center. The Board chose the best 12 for you to vote on.
Proceeds from this contest will be used to buy food for him. Each domestically raised mouse used in training costs us $1. He needs 2-3 mice a day to have as training treats. For his main courses, we offer wild and tame rabbit, chicken, wild mice and voles, plus squirrel, prairie dog, and chipmunk when we can get them.
How does it work?

Remember, each $1.00 is one vote.
You can vote as many times as you like for the length of the contest.
The name that receives the most votes will be his name.

Once the votes are tallied, we will announce his new name!
